The Cameras

Fisheye cameras have been with us a while now, but as higher image sensor resolutions become available these cameras become more and more important. Initially manufacturers released 2 and 3 Megapixel versions of these cameras, at the time sounding a lot of resolution but this was spread over the whole image, so a standard 45 degree view extracted from the whole image would end up less that 400K Pixels not much different than old traditional analogue PAL CCTV. With enhancements in resolution and image sensor performance resolutions up to 12 MPixels are now available.

How it works: The camera fisheye image is saved as the main image with camera corrected views also available for live viewing and secondary stream recording. The recording platform or VMS such as Luxriot EVO has built in correction algorithms that deliver image correction on replay allowing the user to move through the fisheye image and re-create a corrected view or views from the image data. The raw image can also be replayed.
