What happens after the initial support period?
New Videcom Luxriot licences are normally supplied with an initial support and updates period. When that period expires, the installed licensed software does not simply switch off. However, operating without current support can restrict access to updates and manufacturer-backed technical assistance, and can make future server migration or major change more difficult.
Think of support as maintaining the system, not renting it. The value is in keeping the software estate supportable, current and easier to move forward when hardware or operating systems change.
Why maintain support?
Maintain a supported route to current releases, fixes and compatibility improvements rather than leaving the platform frozen at an older version.
Server hardware eventually fails or reaches end of life. Maintaining the software position makes planned migration far easier than dealing with an unsupported system during an emergency.

The best time to review server migration and support status is while the system is healthy, not after the recording server has failed.
