Answers to common questions from schools, colleges, universities and Multi-Academy Trusts considering CCTV upgrades, multi-site management or a move to Luxriot EVO video management software.
Do we have to replace our existing CCTV cameras?-
Usually not. Luxriot supports a wide range of IP cameras and ONVIF devices, so suitable existing cameras can often be retained when moving to a new VMS. Videcom can help review camera makes, models, recording requirements and network conditions before recommending what genuinely needs replacing.
Can different schools or sites use cameras from different manufacturers?-
Yes. One of the advantages of an open VMS is that compatible cameras from different manufacturers can be brought into a common recording, viewing and management environment. This can be particularly useful for academy trusts or education groups that have inherited different CCTV systems at different sites.
Can a Multi-Academy Trust manage CCTV centrally while schools retain local access?-
Yes. Luxriot EVO Global is designed for larger and distributed environments where authorised central staff need oversight across multiple servers or sites. Local users can still be limited to the cameras and functions appropriate to their own school or campus.
What is the difference between EVO S and EVO Global for education?-
Luxriot EVO S is well suited to an individual school, college or standalone CCTV server. Luxriot EVO Global is intended for larger or distributed estates that need centrally managed servers, sites, users and permissions.
Can we migrate one school or site at a time?-
Yes. A phased migration is often the most practical approach. An organisation can establish preferred recording, naming, permissions and support standards at one site and then bring additional sites across as budgets, priorities and equipment replacement cycles allow.
Can different staff have different CCTV permissions?-
Yes. Permissions can be configured so users or groups only have access to the cameras, sites and functions they need. This can include live viewing, playback, PTZ control, footage export and administration.
Can Luxriot use our existing Active Directory users?-
Yes. Luxriot supports Active Directory / LDAP integration, allowing existing organisational user accounts and groups to be used alongside Luxriot permissions where appropriate.
Can Luxriot run on our existing Windows server hardware?-
Potentially. Luxriot EVO runs on Windows and may be suitable for existing server hardware, but this depends on processor performance, memory, storage, camera count, resolution, frame rate and recording load. Videcom can help assess whether existing hardware is appropriate before it is reused.
Can Videcom help us assess an existing education CCTV estate?-
Yes. A useful starting point is the approximate number of cameras and sites, current camera manufacturers, existing recording software or VMS, server arrangements and what you want to improve. Videcom can then help identify a practical route without assuming complete replacement.
What UK support is available after deployment?-
Videcom supplies and licenses Luxriot software and provides UK-based technical support. Because we also design, integrate and support CCTV systems, assistance can extend beyond the software licence to cameras, servers, networking, migration and wider system integration where required.
Tell us about your sites, approximate camera count, existing CCTV system and what you want to improve. We can help identify the most practical next step.
